I got rid of my Logitech wireless mouse because of the lag of connecting was annoying, and the gigs of software you need running for a mouse is inane; also the updates they pushed out for the software broke button mapping so the mouse could have "AI" features, why a mouse needs ai features is beyond me, but I'm pretty much done with Logitech. So now I have a simple usb wired mouse from Tecknet, and needed a way to map two buttons. PtionsPlus allows me to map buttons, again why we can have trillions of dollars spent on OS features for AI, and not have the ability to map a mouse button is just insane, and comes back to my point that corporations are unable to create actual useful features, because useful features don't spy on you and make them money.

I ~follow~followed the Yanko Design RSS feed; some interesting new designs among the stuff that is supposed to pass as new designs but is really just stuff they are trying to hawk. But the worst part is, the articles are all AI written; very much so. My problem with this, I don't like AI writing, I don't like the style it writes in which is very AI. By reading a lot of AI writing I'm worried that I'll start writing, talking, and thinking like that, which is something I don't want.
Back when twitter was a thing, I caught myself thinking in terms of "how can I phrase this thought in the form of a tweet" , so your brain definitely likes trying to work into a format if you interact with that format too much. The over explained AI prose is definitely a format I don't want to start thinking in.
Having AI write all your articles also just screams: "this is just content I don't really give a fuck about; I'm just here trying to get clicks for money, which makes you the sucker I'm trying to extract money from." I'd rather not be a sucker, so I'm moving on.

This is true on so many levels. The food you put into yourself can effect how you feel, and the media you consume into your brain can effect how you feel. When you use an AI to do all your thinking, and eating garbage food, it's like withdrawing from your savings; eventually you'll be broke.
This is another case of corporations only caring about maximizing profit, so anything you get from them will be low quality trash, so you should make your own meals instead; from scratch as possible.
Part of the challenge is to try to recreate some pattern or behaviour with as few and as simple rules as possible. Sometimes I manage to recreate the phenomenon I set out to create, and sometimes not. More often than not I get something interesting, even if it is not always what I expected.

I have a feeling that I know the answer already, because I read a lot of articles about young people rediscovering music cassettes and vinyl records and DVDs and whatnot, and I think if there was new tech to be excited about, they wouldn't get excited about the old stuff. In the 90s, tech from the 60s was dated and boring, while today tech from the 90s seems to see a revival.
One aspect of this might also be the tech industry wanting to control every aspect of tech, and watching you through the window at night like some kind of pervert. They sucked the fun out of it all. And along those lines, they only add features that can make them money, not features that are actually useful to the end user; who is going to be excited by a fridge that displays ads?

I think that the way you start your morning steers your day; if you start off scrolling you get into that mindless consuming scrolling loop all day, but if you start your day creating, you put your brain into a more create/explore loop.
These were for MY exploration, study, practice, ideas, and notes. There are a few really good drawings in there, but also many terrible one (just this morning I drew an absolute howler, I couldn’t believe how bad it was). I think that if you are not making terrible drawings, you’re probably not challenging yourself to get better in areas that you are weak in.

For this record, I was recording a lot of really quick ideas, and then, over time, piecing them together to see which ones felt like they were worth developing a little further. I just try to record as much as I can of everything I do, so I have a catalog to search through. Which is very nice when you're feeling like you don't have an idea, and you can sift back through: what's this thing that I recorded three months ago, and can I develop it further? And then it could also become something totally different. I've certainly had this happen, where I start with one idea, and I have some tracks recorded, and by the end all the original ones are muted, and I've ended up with a totally different song—but they still needed to be those first ideas in order to get to the final thing.
This is why I'm not a huge fan of "small web". It's just not very interesting; a lot of meta posts just talking about how great small web is.

A curated collection of posters. I'm looking for good graphic design to study from, and it's nice to find a curated set as opposed to just archives of junk. More people should curate instead of archiving/listing things out. A list on the internet with no curation is pretty useless; no one really cares about what books you read, but they probably care if you explain why you like the books you like. The same goes for the link rolls that are just a ton of links with no descriptions of why the person found them interesting.
I found this interesting not for the hostile urban design, but because it could be explaining how most corporations develop software for their "customers" ; they design software for the maximum negative effect for you while making the most money for themselves. You'll never get actual useful features from any corporate software because useful features aren't the features that make them more money; usually useful features are the ones that lose them money.

A lot of it is not simply stubbornness, but rather every psyche learns, stores and interprets information differently. Language has given us the illusion that communication is easy if we are capable of using the same words. There are also different dimensions of literacy, but we don’t take that into account.
some people lack original and fun ideas, so they try to hide their unoriginal boring ideas behind state of the art technology. But some people have really interesting ideas, and since the ideas are interesting, they can just be shown on cheap hardware.
Stop chasing fancy hardware, or tools, instead come up with good ideas, and then create an intentional design to bring your idea to life.

AI agents can generate anything you ask for in their own generic way, but they have a really hard time, and it gets really expensive when you try to make it create the vision you actually have. Some people have no ideas and are just having AIs create the same programs over and over, and these people think this is great, but I'm assuming eventually those people will realize they have no ideas, no one cares what they have Ai re-make yet again and will move on.
People that are outsourcing their "thinking" to AI are just getting back the most generic thoughts that everyone else is getting back; it's like watching an episode of Golden Girls, going into work, and telling everyone what an expert in cheesecake you are.

My favorite part about this magazine is the one article == one page. I wish everyone would adopt this style of writing; instead of meandering with no point what-so-ever to fill page after page with gibberish nonsense, you are required to actually have an interesting idea, and present it in one page. Through this process, I also learned that automation allowed me to change how I worked, not just speed up my work.
I've been finding this out a lot lately, when you lean into AI, you find new ways of working; instead of thinking about how to implement, you just start focusing on the ideas you had. Instead of thinking, that'll be too much work to change, or procrastinating implementing a feature to test out and idea, you just use AI and do it, and start using the new feature.
"Copilot, read my Copilot session logs from the last 7 days and propose opportunities for automation. Draft a reusable skill for each."
I've always wanted something to watch my terminal session and do this for me. How can I vim better? how can I shell better? what tools are out there I don't know about that'll speed up my workflows. This would be a great (maybe a tad creepy) AI app. It just watches you work and then suggests ways you could improve your workflows.
What I’ve come to understand - and never really articulated to myself before - is that research creates its own momentum. The more time I invest in a decision, the more I start to feel like I should buy something, if only to justify all the effort I’ve already put into researching it.
I feel this way about ideas, you scribble down an idea, draw something in your sketchbook, and then you brain is like "YOU MUST NOW MAKE THIS THING". Calm down brain, I'm just exploring ideas here. Sometimes I don't explore ideas because of this; feeling like I have to build something if I spend the time researching/designing it.
Back to the actual article. My other problem with buying new things is Enshittification. I just don't want to deal with the lower quality version they made this year. I don't like buying stuff anymore, it usually just turns into work, frustration, and disappointment. The last time I found shoes I liked I bought 4 pairs, because I realized each year they would make these shoes cheaper and cheaper. At least Enshittification makes it easier to save money.
All I need is for the screen to pop up when I'm backing up for the backup camera, and then go away until I backup again.
I'm not sure if this is the message the article was trying to convey, but it seems to come off as: Vibe Coders are the people that have ideas, they build up their ideas with prototypes and experiments built via AI agents, while the Software Engineer is not the idea person, they are just there to implement code in a clean way. An analogy would be the architect that designs a beautiful building as opposed to the workers that take that design and then follow building codes to frame the house, or wire the electrical.
At the end of the article they do say the same person should be able to switch back and forth, being both the prototype person and then implementer, and maybe going forward that is the skill set you want to have to stay relevant.

Maybe all of these robots they are building to clean your house and answer your door can be repurposed to scan in documents; I can hand the robot my sketchbook, and it'll page through scanning and tagging each page in a digital format somewhere; a glorified scanner.
At first look, this table seems kind of pretentious, but then when you think about it, the idea is pretty ingenious. I think the image at the brewery was the selling point for me, since when you are in a place like that you are standing and there isn't a lot of places to put your drink or food, so if the brewery gave you trays that clip on, and your drinks sit in the middle part, you have a great way to hold your food without having to try and juggle it standing.
These might be kind of nice outside of food trucks, or at outdoor events.
Another Idea I had, was using something like this to make toolboxes that can be converted quickly into work spaces. the toolbox contains the materials and tools, and then you attach legs (standing or sitting), and connect multiple boxes together for longer surfaces. Create tables and trays that can connect on to the boxes so you can mix and match what you need and quickly setup a work environment for a specific task.

I like the Idea of Radical simplicity in car design. I remember back when I was a kid, cars had no screens in them; that was nice, I kind of wish we could get back to that kind of radical simplicity.
I think my main problem with displays in cars are they are slow to start, and are just used to advertise crap; why am I forced to have a Pandora icon on my display, are they even still in business? Maybe a Radically simply display in a car is one with only the features you have, and goes away or turns off when not in use.
A post about prototyping out functionality as opposed to just trying to build something from ideas / consensus / meetings... etc. Just build something and use it and see where that goes; make it easy to fix and change; add and remove as you find use cases through the use of the product.
When building something I always want to jump to the pretty end state, but really the best way to design a product it to build a janky prototype and use it every day; adding and removing features with actual use, not just ideas that something might or might not be good.
