Feels like the book "A short stay in hell" but it's unclear if the hero is dead or not. One review I read thought it was a description of a Buddhist concept (https://ashabardongaminglorist.substack.com/p/exit-8-explained-the-buddhist-elements) , and to make a game (and a movie) from a concept like that seems intriguing; concept + location + story. I also like how simple the concept of the game is while still being hard to impossible depending on how complicated you want to make it (that wall had 1000 tiles this time and only 999 tiles the next).

If you didn't read the book a lot of this movie may not have made very much sense. really any movie that needs to be over 1 1/2 hours should just be a TV series. The film doesn't really cover what I like about the books, and that was the problem, solve problem with science aspect of it; even at 2.5 hours they still didn't have enough time (although there were many scenes that went on way too long that could have been cut.) They also dumbed down Rocky and made him more of a pet than the super engineer that he was. Overall this movie felt like a movie preview for the book, and if you want the full story you'll need to read that.
