I like the format of Andy Weir's books; problem -> solve problem with science, repeat.

The call of Cthulhu- Author
- H. P. Lovecraft
Short story about our flappy tentacly faced friend. The thing I didn't care for in the story, was he never really says why Cthulhu goes back to his dungeon after he gets free; one of the most important parts of the story just glossed over.

Many "short" stories that intertwine and all end up back on Hyperion.

Old Man's War- Author

I didn't read this for a long time since I don't really like war books, but this isn't so much a war book as a fun sci-fi book. Never got into the follow on books for some reason.
